Summary
A team of Yale scientists studying corkscrew-shaped pieces of proteins has stumbled on a novel molecule that can find cancer and other trouble spots in the body and inject drugs, genetic messages and dye. The scientists have patented one protein and have patents pending on what became colorfully called the nano-syringe.
Preliminary data show that the nano-syringe can selectively accumulate in tumors and other acidic sites in the body, said Donald M. Engelman, professor of molecular biophysics and biochemistry at Yale, and lead author of a study published by the National Academy of Sciences.See the full content of this document

Yale Scientists Discover 'Nano-Syringe'
The research is unique to Yale University, Engelman said, though other scientists have attempted to place proteins in cells using different methods.
