Perhaps the worst-kept secret in the world of women's professional tennis was finally made public when Kim Clijsters officially announced her withdrawal from both the Pilot Pen and U.S. Open. A report out of Belgium over the weekend announced that Clijsters had officially withdrawn from both events. Clijsters' father and manager Leo confirmed the withdrawals over the weekend when contacted by Women's Tennis Association officials.
Clijsters, who fell from No. 2 to No. 5 in the latest WTA rankings, has been out of action since injuring her left wrist in early May. She had surgery on June 12 and had hoped to be able to return to the tour in the Pilot Pen, which will be held on Aug. 20- 28 at the Connecticut Tennis Center in New Haven.See the full content of this document
