2 Wounded in Street Shooting; Innocent Bystander, 16, One of the Victims On Whalley Ave.

Summary

A gunman opened fire on a busy Whalley Avenue corner Wednesday evening, wounding two people, including a 16-year-old who a witness said was in the area because his mother was buying him a new pair of sneakers. The boy, identified by police sources as Allen Williams, was hit at least once in the abdomen as he stood outside the hair salon where his mother worked as a stylist, witnesses and police said.

"He was definitely an innocent bystander," said Shoney Yancey, who worked at the Golden Touch Unisex Salon, 336 Whalley Ave. She said the young man had come to the salon so his mother could buy him new sneakers for this weekend's Freddie Fixer parade and stuck around.
