Life with Wendy: Dad Contemplates Meaning of Time in the Shower

Summary


Where did the time go? We live and breathe by the movement of two hands on the face of a clock. Time is easily lost. Once time is gone, you can't go back no matter what the scientists try and tell us. And, for whatever reason, I can't begin to fathom, it seems to be going by faster and faster. Whatever happened to the simpler days when we were younger? I envy my 4-year-old son. He wakes up every day, and his routine is defined by three little choices: school with Miss Liz, school with Miss Stacey or church. In between, it's playtime and bedtime. He is fed (by me), bathed, coddled and loved. In his eyes, his siblings have a routine as well. Wouldn't it be nice if life were that simple for adults?

Every weekday morning while going through my own routine, I drive the kids down to the bottom of the driveway to catch one bus or another. Three of the children are heading in different directions. They are either in elementary or middle school.
