-WEST HAVEN -- In the middle of busy Campbell Avenue last September, Enudinisu Ekere had just been stabbed in the stomach during a knife fight with several youths who egged his car. He looked up, saw Stefan Murray, and lunged at the 15-year-old.

But Murray was only a kid like Ekere, whose family had moved him from New York to have a safer life in Connecticut, and he had nothing to do with the fight that Ekere found himself in. Yet, Ekere rained blows on the unarmed teen with one hand, and with the other stabbed him in the head with a spring-loaded knife. The 5-inch gash required 18 surgical staples to close.
