Walter Monteith Jr., the former chairman and CEO of Southern New England Telephone Co., took ill over the weekend and died Tuesday at Yale-New Haven Hospital. He was 75. New Haven Mayor John DeStefano Jr. said the man known by friends as "Scotty" will leave an indelible mark on Greater New Haven, even if many people won't recognize him by name.
