At&T Unveils New Logo; Merged Firms to Sport Updated, Familiar Globe

Everything from the facades of SBC Communications Inc. and AT&T Corp. buildings to the hard hats worn by utility workers will soon bear the merged companies' new, yet familiar, logo. AT&T Inc., formed by the merger of SBC and AT&T Friday, has updated the old AT&T "globe"logo, making it three-dimensional with thicker bands circling it. The globe and surrounding bands symbolize the world, circled by electronic communications. The company will also launch a massive advertising campaign over the next several months, officials said Monday.

"We wanted to shift to a contemporary AT&T logo,"said spokesman Seth Bloom. "It really invigorates one of the most recognized corporate symbols in the world."
