Clad in purple practice jerseys, the University of Washington men's basketball team raced from end to end during the Huskies' early-afternoon workout at the Verizon Center on Thursday. Coach Lorenzo Romar, his hands stuffed in his pockets, was the only stationary figure on the court. His players, who have relied on speed and transition offense all season, faced little resistance getting to the basket during their three-man fast-break drill. There was no defense. Romar knows the situation will be vastly different tonight, when the University of Connecticut, the top seed, plays fifth-seeded Washington in the Washington D.C. Regional semifinals (9:57 p.m., CBS).

Washington (26-6) has speed, but UConn (29-3) has size. Lots of it. Romar was reviewing some statistics when he came across one that caused some mild discomfort: UConn's 19 blocked shots against Notre Dame last month.
