Summary
The botched potential bombing in Times Square is a credit to New York police and the FBI. But, it raises concerns about all the other city police departments without that level of sophistication. Police departments nationally are focused primarily on reducing crime. To expect them to add counterterrorism to their load, with no new funding, is unrealistic.
There is a new, exciting area of criminal research on behavior profiling of potential terrorists. In effect, police, security guards and ordinary citizens can be trained to identify potential threats in their communities, thereby reducing risk of injury and death.See the full content of this document
