Tommy Fund Holiday Cards On Sale to Fight Kids' Cancer

Summary

The Tommy Fund for Childhood Cancer and Yale-New Haven Children's Hospital are fighting pediatric cancer with the annual sale of holiday greeting cards. The card sale, now in its 20th year, is part of a regional fundraising effort designed to meet the educational, recreational and treatment needs of children with cancer, the center and hospital said in a press statement. All Tommy Fund cards are designed by young artists being treated at Yale-New Haven Children's Hospital. Three new cards were released this year, the statement said. A new Tommy Fund note card that can be used year-round features a patient's drawing of an intricate purple flower.

The sale of holiday cards has generated more than $300,000 for the Tommy Fund over two decades. Proceeds provide direct and indirect financial assistance to patients who are treated at the Yale-New Haven Children's Hospital. The money has helped fund a pediatric oncology research nurse, and nursing education and research fellowships at the Yale School of Medicine for physicians in pediatric oncology, the statement said. The Tommy Fund also provides recreational and other activities for patients.
