I was thinking: In retrospect, I'm kind of glad that Tennessee opted out of its regular-season series with the University of Connecticut in women's basketball. It will add a delicious element of mystery-not to mention amping up the bitter grudge factor-to their ultimate Final Four showdown in early April.
- In terms of New Haven area hotels and restaurants, we can only think of two other sporting events in the city in the last two decades that rival the financial impact of the Yale-Harvard game, which drew 57,248 to the Bowl Saturday. According to Deep Bean- counter, the Special Olympics World Games in 1995 and the AAU national tournament in 2001, both participatory-driven events, are the only two sporting events that generated more hotel and restaurant revenue for Greater New Haven-the Pilot Pen Tennis tournament included.See the full content of this document
