I was thinking: The CIAC semifinal scoreboard last Tuesday night screamed for a critical adjustment in the computer program that mismatched the alleged four best football teams in each of the six enrollment classifications.

The average score of the semifinal round was 39-8, and not a single game finished with a margin closer than 17 points. In fact, left to its own devices, where both teams try from start to finish, fair and square, and running time isn't invoked in the second half - - as it was in Hillhouse-St. Bernard/Norwich Tech and Holy Cross- Tolland -- no less than four games would have easily surpassed a 50- point margin of victory and probably a fifth game as well.

The average halftime score of the 12 playoff games was 27-5 and in those five aforementioned routs, the average halftime score was 38-1.
