Lawmakers may do away with a 22-year-old tax exemption that eliminates sales tax on clothing purchases costing less than $50.

As legislators continue to debate a new two-year budget for the state, which would take effect July 1, the state Finance, Revenue and Bonding Committee has passed a measure that would eliminate the exemption.
