Register Staff NEW HAVEN -- Actress, poet and activist Billie Jean Young will present a one-woman show, "Fannie Lou Hamer: This Little Light," at 7 p.m. Friday at Immanuel Baptist Church, 1324 Chapel St. Young also will appear at a series of workshops earlier in the day at Wilbur Cross High School.

The Alabama-born actress has given more than 700 performances as Hamer, a sharecropper from Mississippi who advocated the rights of African Americans to be delegates at the 1964 Democratic national convention. Hamer later became a delegate and spoke out on the need for political delegates to come from all segments of society.
