When it comes to tapping into residents' love of things artistic, Artsplace is a real draw. Although technically the name refers to the building that houses the town's performing and fine arts classes at 1220 Waterbury Road, Artsplace is often used as a catch-all to refer to the program itself.

More than 1,000 people a year take the courses offered through the town's performing and fine arts department, said Joan Pilarczyk, director of Artsplace. The bulk of the activities take place in the fall and spring, but the center is also used for rehearsals by the town's Youth Theater program throughout the year.
