New Fire Chief Tom Eighmie wants to make sure his volunteer firefighters are outfitted with the best protective clothing on the market. To that end, Eighmie this week gained approval from the Board of Selectmen to purchase 12 new sets of the industry's top of the line firefighter's turnout gear, which include protective jackets and pants. The gear will cost $19,875, which Eighmie said the Fire Department has in its budget to cover.
Fire Commissioner Scott Martin said there have been a few incidents in the past during which the current gear has not functioned properly, especially in terms of moisture barriers.
