Nick Cook's decision to defend his Connecticut Open championship proved to be a very wise one - and an unfortunate one for all of the other golfers. The Shelton resident led from start to finish in the three-day tournament at Ridgewood Country Club, posting a final- round 72 Wednesday to coast to a six-stroke victory over Dennis Hillman and Corey Harris.

The successful defense of the Open title was the first since Kevin Giancola in 1987 and 1988. Cook, 24, won the event at CC of Waterbury and finished third two years ago on his home course, Mill River CC in Stratford.
