Summary
The article on Stubby, the World War I dog, reminded me that my father had a dog in World War II he picked up in Hawaii before they started island hopping. I remember Dad told us Spotty was one heck of a ratter. Every morning, Dad would find a row of dead rats outside his tent flap, where Spotty would be sitting waiting for his reward for doing a good job getting rid of vermin.
Spotty was made the platoon mascot and accompanied them on patrol. Every time Spotty stopped and growled at a bushy area, the guys would spray weapons fire and nine out of 10 times would end up with a dead Japanese sniper.See the full content of this document
