Thank you for the article describing the important work and financial crisis facing New Haven Legal Assistance. As a community organization serving people struggling to access health care in an increasingly hostile system, we rely daily on legal aid to protect our clients' legal rights. Before this financial crisis, legal aid could not meet all the needs of our community. With the economic downturn affecting jobs and health care, the need for legal aid's services will only climb.
It is unfortunate that legal aid's main funding source is dependent on the economy and real estate transactions. I am very worried about its capacity to meet the growing demand of clients we all serve.
