Summary
NORTH HAVEN -- Edward C. Colclough Sr. was known as "Mr. Tomato of North Haven," and with good reason. Having grown up in New Haven, and spending 40 years working in a factory, Colclough spent the rest of his life living on old farmland in North Haven, where he grew and sold a variety of vegetables from a stand in his front yard.
He was particularly well known for his tomatoes, which he grew pesticide-free. "As a farmer, he was very much against the use of pesticides, and would literally go around and pick the bugs off his plants by hand," said his daughter, Linda C. Heines of North Haven. "His motto was he had the best tomatoes, and if people didn't try them, they didn't know what they were missing."See the full content of this document
