OLD SAYBROOK -- The informal committee that was beginning to plan the restoration of Town Hall as a community theater now has official status. The Board of Selectmen voted recently to reconstitute the ad hoc group as the Town Hall Restoration Building Committee. The move will allow the committee to oversee all phases of the planned restoration, from design and feasibility work to actual construction.

Current committee members are: Walter Hirsch, former head of the Acton Library building committee; Wilma Asch, economic development director; J. H. Torrance Downes, a regional planner and professional actor; town Executive Assistant Roland Laine; Selectwoman Velma Thomas; and Elaine Staplins, town historian.
