Longtime New Haven resident Nora "Sis" Gallagher never missed a beat. "My mother was widowed very young," recalled a daughter, Ellen Richard of Hamden. "I was 11 at the time, the youngest of six children, and there were four of us still living at home. My father died Thanksgiving week, but my mother still went ahead with Thanksgiving dinner. She felt she had to go on with her life, for the sake of the family, and would not ignore this holiday even though she was grieving. She was a strong and very independent person who lived on her own to age 91. And she had all six of us graduate from Catholic high school, a promise she had made to my dad."
Gallagher died March 8 at age 92.See the full content of this document
