You would be hard-pressed to put anything over on Mary P. DeLuca. "She knew every move I made before I made them," said a daughter, Carol Williams of Wallingford. "When I was 14, I liked to sneak out of the house to meet my girlfriend. One night when I snuck out, there was my mother, waiting for me at the end of the street. I was astonished and asked her how she knew. She said, 'I know every move you are going to make just by the expression on your face.' She was overprotective."

DeLuca died Aug. 13 at age 84.
