Andrew Acampora was the kind of helpmate everyone could use. "Early in our marriage, my wife and I bought a house in New Haven that been burned by vandals," said son Andrew J. Acampora of Swampscott, Mass. "We bought it with the idea of renovating it. The day we closed on it, my father showed up and proceeded to work with us every day between April and August to get that house ready. Periodically I would say to him, 'I don't know if we can do this,' and he would always respond, 'We can do this, and we will.' He was in his 60s at the time. It was a great lesson for me."
A lifelong city resident, Acampora died June 4 at age 89.See the full content of this document
