Commissioners may pay for her chief of staff's order to break campaign law. Gov. M. Jodi Rell needs to show a little more leadership in resolving the wholesale violation of state campaign finance laws by her department heads and their deputies. Another apology and a call to move on at a recent meeting with her department heads is not enough.
Reportedly, some commissoners have objected to an offer from the State Elections Enforcement Commission that they can settle the election violation charges by paying a $500 fine to avoid an admission of wrongdoing. We have no sympathy for the commissioners who meekly followed instructions from the governor's chief of staff to hand out invitations with the instruction "bring check" to subordinates for a December fund-raiser for the governor.See the full content of this document
