Summary


The program Eric Da Costa left after graduating as one of the more decorated Quinnipiac men's soccer players in the school's history was not the same program he took over when he returned to the school in July 2005. He was hired as one of the youngest head coaches in Division I and met with part contempt, part acceptance and part confusion from his new players. A noticeable rift existed on the team. Some players were not ready to buy into a disciplined system. Approaching the problem tentatively was not in Da Costa's plans. He wanted this to become a reclamation project.

"I wanted to establish a soccer culture here because there used to be one," Da Costa said. "I left here after being an assistant and returned earlier than I expected. I wanted to come back here. I always did. But I didn't recognize the program. Something had to be done."
