BRIDGEPORT (AP) -- A federal appeals court has upheld the five- year prison sentence handed to former state Sen. Ernest Newton, D- Bridgeport, for political corruption. Newton, 50, was sentenced last year by Senior U.S. District Judge Alan H. Nevas after pleading guilty to accepting a $5,000 bribe, using campaign contributions for personal expenses and failing to report the improper income on his federal tax return.See the full content of this document
