Pipe Ashes Blamed for Seymour House Blaze; Resident, 86, Escapes, but Lacks Insurance

An 86-year-old man was forced from his uninsured Westerman Avenue house Wednesday by a quick-burning blaze that was started by pipe ashes, authorities said. It was the second time in 24 years that a serious fire ravaged the man's home; another house on the site burned to the ground in 1982.

Fire Marshal Paul Wetowitz said homeowner Anthony Carloni, who was not injured, lives on a pension and Social Security and could not afford premiums on his home insurance policy.
