CROMWELL -- It was the eve of the Tournament Players Championship in Ponte Vedra, Fla., in early May when Fred Funk had the gang come over to his nearby home for Bible study. Funk was showing the players his weight room upstairs while Kenny Perry lingered in Funk's trophy room. More specifically, Perry, 47, was admiring the TPC Players Championship trophy that Funk had won three years earlier ... at the age of 48, the oldest player to win the coveted title.

When Perry arrived in Ponte Vedra, he had been languishing in mediocrity for more than three months after finishing tied for third in mid-January at the Bob Hope -- nine tournaments that seemed to have him in a protracted lull, if not slump.
