Partial Verdict Favors New Haven Cop in Bar Shooting

Summary


NEW HAVEN -- A jury Tuesday decided decided that city police Officer James Grasso used reasonable force when he shot one of two brothers during a 1994 bar brawl. But the six-member panel remained undecided on whether it was reasonable for Grasso to shoot the other brother.

Both brothers, Gregg Celentano and Richard Andrus, survived gunshot wounds to the chest and sued Grasso, the police department and the city. The civil trial has been ongoing in Superior Court for several weeks and continues today.
