Summary
A joint Board of Aldermen committee has finished its deliberations on doling out nearly $8 million in federal grants to city departments and nonprofit organizations for the 2006-07 budget year, but lawmakers have concerns beyond that time frame. This year's take for Community Development Block Grants, awarded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, was reduced by about 10 percent. In previous years, the decline had been about 5 percent annually.
