Palm Print Leads Cops to Suspect in '01 Killing; Car-Theft Arrest Brings Break in Stratford Case

Summary

Five years after 21-year-old Shani Baldwin was found with her throat cut at her McPadden Drive home, a bloody palm print found at the scene has led investigators to her alleged killer, police announced Monday. Michael McClendon, 27, of Baldwin St., Bridgeport, was arrested on capital murder charges at an alternative incarceration center in Bridgeport Monday morning, less than a week after the state police's Automated Fingerprint Identification System, or AFIS, matched him with the bloody palm print, police said.

McClendon is charged with capital felony murder and kidnapping, sexual assault and robbery, all in the first degree, and risk of injury to a minor, police said. He was being held in lieu of $500,000 bail as of Monday night.
