Give Carmella Ricciardelli a batch of paints, brushes and scrap paper, and she'll improve a kid's day. Give her a van full of art supplies - and a decade to roam the city's neighborhoods - and she'll change thousands of young lives, one art project at a time.

"The kids make it work. I just bring the stuff," says Ricciardelli, 44, a jewelry artist who lives in West Haven. "I've had kids who, if you give them a pencil and paper, they'll do amazing things."
