Summary
Evan Beirne had to wait for more than 2 hours on Tuesday to see if he had qualified for the U.S. Junior Amateur golf championship. Beirne, a North Haven resident and member of the New Haven Country Club, had posted an early 36-hole score of 148, 8-over par, at Grassy Hill Country Club. He was in line for one of the four spots to qualify until the final golfer on the course came in with a lower score.
J.F. Sorbella of Port Chester, N.Y., shot an even-par 71 on his final 18 holes to finish with a cumulative total of 145. So Beirne will be the first alternate for the championship, which will be held in Chevy Chase, Md., July 21-26.See the full content of this document
