Ives met the pop star at this year's Nobel laureate summit when Bono, whose real name is Paul Hewson, received an award. "I consider him to be this generation's Albert Schweitzer," Ives said of Bono, noting that Schweitzer was an internationally known organist and pianist whose musical talent was overshadowed by his humanitarian efforts.

This week, Ives will mark his seventh anniversary as executive director of the Albert SchweitA-zer Institute. He is currently on a trip to Guatemala to take part in the birthday celebration of Rigoberta MenchA[masc ordinal], who won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1992.
