Neurosurgeon, Police Chief Honored for Community Work

Summary

A prominent neurosurgeon and a public servant were honored Tuesday by the Connecticut Anti-Defamation League for their work in the community. At its annual banquet, the ADL recognized Dr. Alvin Greenberg, president of Temple Medical Center and administrator of Yale-New Haven Ambulatory Services Corp., with its Torch of Liberty Award, and New Haven Police Chief Francisco Ortiz Jr. with the Distinguished Community Service Award.

"We don't look for honorees who can fill a room," said Ronald Shaw, a co-chairman for the event and president of the Pilot Pen Tennis tournament. "We really want people like Alvin Greenberg and Chief Ortiz who absolutely are taking their community roles, without getting paid."
