Continued from E1 "The history of Norfolk is that vocal music has always been a big part of the festival," said Hawkshaw, noting the highlight special event Aug. 8 with three-time Grammy Award winner soprano Dawn Upshaw -- who also happens to have a Yale honorary degree -- and pianist Gilbert Kalish. "We wanted an American singer, and Dawn was available, so we're thrilled," he said.
"It's part of a tribute for the 70th anniversary of the death of Ellen Battell Stoeckel," said Hawkshaw of the family on whose estate the school operates. The first part of that celebration is July 12 with the festival's annual free open house for families, which includes tours, an ice cream social, a children's concert and a special performance by the U.S. Coast Guard Chamber Ensemble.See the full content of this document
