Letter to the Editor: Moving Trucks On Rails Would Ease Congestion

The article "Truckers can't get rest" estimates over 1,000 parking sites are needed for truckers to rest. This, of course, requires trucks to keep running for heat in the winter and air conditioning in the summer. Driving down Interstate 95 or Interstate 91, how many times do we look to our side and not see any trains running, especially at night? Trailer trains are very active in the Midwest and West. Their use would relieve much more traffic at a minimum cost. Truckers could pick up their trailers and deliver them to their destination.

The demise of the Poughkeepsie, N.Y., rail bridge had a big influence on truck congestion in this area.
