Summary
MILFORD -- A Bridgeport man who was arrested and imprisoned for 11 days last fall in a case of mistaken identity has sued the city, six police officers and the acting police chief at the time, Inspector William Shultz. Nelson Hernandez's lawsuit is the second this month to allege police knowingly made false allegations and ignored exculpatory evidence in order to make an arrest. Both suits were filed in U.S. District Court in Bridgeport.
According to his attorney, Nelson Hernandez had been staying at the Milford Turnpike Motel after a fight with his wife, had reconciled with her and was headed home at about 9:30 p.m. on Sept. 13, 2003. He was pulled over by a Milford police officer who had been running license plates of cars in the hotel parking lot through a criminal database.See the full content of this document
