MILFORD -- Seven businesses in the city allegedly were in violation of state laws that bar the sale of tobacco to minors when the Police Department and state Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services recently performed a joint inspection, police said. The joint operation targeting "sale of tobacco to minors" was dubbed "Tobacco Prevention Enforcement Program" and 30 businesses were checked.
According to a police statement, a person younger than 18 who was being supervised by members of the two agencies, attempted to purchase tobacco products from local businesses. Businesses found in violation were issued a state infraction, which carries a $200 fine, police said.
