Certain dates were very important to Laurence J. Maraia. "He was big on dressing up the tree every Christmas, for instance," recalled son Vincent Maraia of North Haven. "And every summer, we spent the Fourth of July in Long Island with a cousin of his and her family, and it would be a pretty big get-together of relatives. Every Aug. 2, which was his birthday, we had pretty much the same group of relatives over to our house in Derby. And on Labor Day, we would be out in Pennsylvania visiting with another cousin."

Maraia died Nov. 30 at 90.
