Madison Subdivision Plan Meets with Resistance

Summary

MADISON -- A public hearing for a small subdivision slated to be built on land at the end of Long Shore Lane that includes wetlands and rocky coast drew about 25 neighbors Monday night, many of whom opposed the development for environmental reasons. The proposed Long Shore Estates, with a total of six homes including one existing house, would be built on 26 acres that comprise coastal and inland wetlands, woodlands and several hundred feet of beach. The project includes adding septic systems and driveways to the homes and widening Long Shore Lane.

The subdivision won an initial approval from Inland Wetlands in March, which prompted two lawsuits from nearby residents with concerns about potential harm to the wetlands.
