St. Luke's, Cca Event to Focus On Healing Black Community

Summary


St. Luke's Episcopal Church and Christian Community Action will co-sponsor a special event entitled, "The Emotional Emancipation of Black People: A Community Conversation and Ecumenical Healing Service," to be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday. The program, which will feature panel presentations, readings from slave narratives, music and prayers, will be held at St. Luke's, 111 Whalley Ave. WTNH News anchor Keith Kountz will moderate, and panelists include the Rev. Dr. Frederick J. Streets, Yale University Chaplain; Dr. Charles Morgan, chairman of the Bridgeport Hospital Department of Psychiatry; the Rev. Bonita Grubbs, director of Christian Community Action; and Enola G. Aird, the director of The Motherhood Project.

This program kicks off a long-term project to create a "community healing network" of trained facilitators who will conduct community workshops to promote the spiritual and emotional healing of blacks.
