What is it about children and losing things? No matter what it is, give it to a child if you want it to disappear. Appearing now on center stage is the magical baby Joey. Keep your eyes peeled, ladies and gentlemen, because in a matter of seconds your keys will disappear before your eyes and magically appear in the toilet. Unfortunately, it doesn't get easier as they get older. "Mom, I know you took my homework!" Yeah, OK. I took it, and I am hiding it for a little essay time with my cappuccino later this afternoon. So when my husband gave me a good piece of advice on gift-giving and our children, I am still not clear as to why I didn't listen. "Don't buy that necklace, Wendy. You know he will lose it." The words were literally ringing in my ears like a church bell.

"After all," I protested, "it is his first Holy Communion, and he deserves this special gold cross, despite the cost. He's pretty responsible." OK, so he's 8; I guess I was hoping for too much.
