Summary
Good news -- like good things -- can come in small packages. And some very small parts of the natural world do herald good news. Perhaps you have noticed lichens ("like-ins") growing on rocks and trees, then forgotten them. Once the leaves have fallen, forest trees may appear as though they are splashed with gray-green paint. On stone buildings and rock walls they are a part of the New England landscape we take for granted.
