Letter to the Editor: Prevent Closure of Old State House

Summary


While I should have known that Wightwood School would not send my son's fourth-grade class on a boring field trip, I thought our trip to the Old State House in Hartford would prove to be a snooze. Imagine my delight as the children spent a lively day voting for a governor from their midst, discussing a bill to abolish homework and conducting a trial in which the Three Little Pigs lost to the Big Bad Wolf due to lack of evidence.

The students deserve kudos for their enthusiasm, joy in learning and participating. These are qualities encouraged and valued by Wightwood School every day. The Old State House educators Jody and Lindsay elicited the best from the children, and we will all benefit from the better citizens these children will become because of this experience.
