Letter to the Editor: Only President Can Order Half-Staff Flag

Summary

According to the federal flag code, a governor does not have the right to order the flag of the United States flown at half-staff on the death of a military person. The governor can order the flag of the state flown at half-staff. Based on this, no mayor, selectman or school official may ever order the flag of the United States flown at half-staff.
