Summary
In honor of National Nurses Week, I thought it fitting to acknowledge the invaluable work nurses do. As a cardiologist for 20 years, I have seen hundreds of patients in office and hospital. Despite their various cardiac problems, the common factor in their successful outcomes has been the arduous work done by the nurses involved in their care.
It is the triage nurse who in the emergency room is responsible for initiating the critical step of routing the patient to the appropriate level of care. While the doctor is on call, the nurse remains with the patient for the duration of the shift, attending to every need of the patient, including measures of comfort and words of encouragement during the moment of greatest vulnerability.See the full content of this document
