Summary
Political action committees controlled by top General Assembly leaders raised about $1.6 million for legislative campaigns in 2006- the last election in which such freewheeling "unlimited" PAC spending will be permitted. Reforms are scheduled to take effect that are intended to place some controls over such legislative leadership PACs, which have been used for years to collect special interest dollars and distribute them to state House and Senate candidates.
A New Haven Register review of recent reports by 17 leadership PACs showed that at least $1.2 million of the money raised by those committees had been sent out in contributions to legislative candidates by the end of October.See the full content of this document
