SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Barely a year out of Yale and less than two weeks before her 24th birthday, Kate O'Neill ran a strong, smart and steady race to earn a place on the U. S. Olympic track team for Athens. O'Neill finished third in the Olympic Trials 10,000 meters late Friday night with a time of 32 minutes, 7 seconds, nearly a minute behind the winner, 31-year-old Deena Drossin. Drossin's winning time was 31:09.65; second was Elva Dryer, 32, who ran 31:58.14.
